# Thomas Wolfers > Prof. Dr. Thomas Wolfers is the Carl Zeiss Professor for Artificial Intelligence in Neural Systems Imaging (Carl-Zeiss-Professor für Künstliche Intelligenz in der Bildgebung neuraler Systeme) at Friedrich Schiller University Jena, Germany. He leads the Laboratory for Mental Health Mapping (MHM Lab), which uses machine learning and large, diverse datasets to understand mental health and illness at the level of the individual rather than the diagnostic category. ## Key facts - Position: Carl Zeiss Professor for Artificial Intelligence in Neural Systems Imaging, Friedrich Schiller University Jena - Faculty: Faculty of Social and Behavioural Sciences (Institute of Psychology); full secondary membership in the Faculty of Mathematics and Computer Science and the Faculty of Medicine - Leads: Laboratory for Mental Health Mapping (MHM Lab), https://mhm-lab.github.io - Education: PhD in neuroscience, Donders Institute, Radboud University (Netherlands) - Previous research positions: Netherlands, Norway, and the United Kingdom - Research areas: mental health, psychiatry, machine learning, neuroimaging, normative modeling, heterogeneity of mental disorders - ORCID: https://orcid.org/0000-0002-7693-0621 - Languages: German and English - Contact: dr.thomas.wolfers@gmail.com ## Research themes - Foundations of Mental Health Mapping: What does it mean to be healthy, and where does a disorder begin? Together with philosophers, clinicians, and patients, we look for answers that hold up. - Structures of Mental Health Mapping: Mental health takes shape between biology, family, and society. We study how these levels work together. - Markers for Mental Health Mapping: Two people with the same diagnosis can be very different. We look for markers that make these differences visible. - Models for Mental Health Mapping: We develop machine learning methods that handle large, complex data and can make their way into the clinic. Within a two-hour drive of Jena he covers his own travel costs. To invite him, email dr.thomas.wolfers@gmail.com with the topic, occasion and location, expected number of attendees and their background, and preferred language. ## Pages - [Homepage (English)](https://thomaswolfers.github.io/en/): introduction and public talks - [Startseite (Deutsch)](https://thomaswolfers.github.io/): Einführung und Vorträge - [Science (English)](https://thomaswolfers.github.io/en/science/): the four research themes - [Wissenschaft (Deutsch)](https://thomaswolfers.github.io/science/): die vier Forschungsthemen - [Impressum](https://thomaswolfers.github.io/impressum/) ## Elsewhere - Publications: https://scholar.google.com/citations?user=4f2rdMcAAAAJ&hl=en - ORCID: https://orcid.org/0000-0002-7693-0621 - Selected publications: https://mhm-lab.github.io/selected/ - University profile: https://www.fsv.uni-jena.de/en/80872/czs-endowed-chair-for-artificial-intelligence-in-neural-systems-imaging - Bluesky: https://bsky.app/profile/thomaswolfers.bsky.social - LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/thomas-wolfers-5b96694b/ - GitHub: https://github.com/thomaswolfers
