Thomas Wolfers
Welcome, and thank you for stopping by! I am fascinated by how differently each of us thinks, feels, and experiences the world. As Carl Zeiss Endowed Professor for Artificial Intelligence in Neural Systems Imaging at Friedrich Schiller University Jena, I lead the Laboratory for Mental Health Mapping.
Previously: PhD at the Donders Institute (Netherlands), research in Norway and the UK.
Science
Behind every diagnosis is a person with their own story. That is why I focus on individuals rather than categories. Using machine learning and large datasets, I aim to understand what shapes mental health and to help make treatments fit the people who need them.
Foundations
What is healthy, and what is a disorder?
Structures
From biology to families and society.
Markers
The hidden factors behind illness.
Models
Machine learning, from lab to clinic.
Talks for schools, communities, and organizations
Science thrives on conversation, especially in a world that changes so quickly. That is why I am happy to come to you and speak, pro bono, about three topics close to my heart. Your questions are always welcome. Within a two-hour drive of Jena, I cover my own travel costs.
If you would like to invite me to your school, community, or organization, I would love to hear from you (dr.thomas.wolfers@gmail.com). To help me tailor the talk to your audience, please include:
- the topic,
- the occasion and location,
- the expected number of attendees and their background,
- your preferred language (German or English).
